             Ecology & Biodiversity Conservation Division

 Project Title:  Development of suitable models for afforestation of mined areas.

 Principle Investigator: Dr. R.K. Verma

 Period: 2002-2006

 Objectives:

  • To undertake ecological surveys of native flora and their vegetational associations for identifying suitable species for afforestation of mined out areas.
  • To standardize potting media through nursery experiments for its replication in field plantations.
  • To establish introduction trials of selected species for rehabilitation of mined out areas.
  • Periodic monitoring and assessment of the growth performance of demonstration plantations as established in the mined areas.
  • Studies on the changes in soil properties and in the ground flora as well brought about through the proposed models  .
