Institute has well equipped facilities and services for conducting R&D activities in the region. Supporting facilities includes:

A. Laboratory: Institute has three specialised and highly sophisticated laboratories:

1. Ecology Laboratory: The Ecology Laboratory is well equipped with all the advanced instruments required for analysis of soil and plant samples. viz. Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, PC-based UV-visible spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer Bomb Calorimeter, Soil Moisture Probe, Soil Tensiometer and other essential equipment.
A weather station has also been installed in the Institute to record meteorological data.

The facility of laboratory analysis of soil and plant samples is the extended to outside research organisations, forest departments and other agencies on coordiantor's approval at the following charges:

S.No. Detail Rate (Rs.)
1. Physicochemical Analysis of Soil Sample. 300.00/sample
2. Biochemical Analysis of Plant Sample 300.00/sample
3. Identification of Plant 15.00/plant

II. Forest Protection Laboratory: Forest Protection Laboratory is equipped with Microscope, Laminar Flow, BOD Incubator, Innoculation Chamber, Autoclaves, Insect/Borer Rearing Chamber.

III. Seed Technology Laboratory: Seed Technology Laboratory is eqiupped with Seeddrier, Specific Gravity Separator, Seed Grader, Seed Moisture Meter, Seed Germinator, BOD Incubator, Deep Freezers and Seed Storage Facility (Walk-in-Chamber) etc.

B. Herbarium: The herbarium was established in July, 2000.We have collected 800 species of around 125 families of western Himalaya especially from cold desert region. The Herbarium has around 5000 specimens mounted and pasted on the herbarium sheets. Identified 22 Medicinal Plants species listed in Red Data Book. Contributed 115 specimens each to FRI Herbarium and BSI Herbarium at Dehradun.

C. Mist Chamber is equipped with Humidity and Temperature Control Unit.

D. Model Nursery : All the modern nursery facilities like green house with mister, shade house, polyhouse, Insect Breeding Station, MAI beds for container plants including root trainers and composting unit are available with model nursery to undertake specific nursery trials.
