Forest Protection Division

This Division constitutes two areas of research, the entomology and the forest pathology. The primary function of the division is to investigate insect pest and disease problems confronting forest nurseries, plantations and natural forests in the state of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and evolve economically viable and ecologically sound pest and disease management strategies.
Objectives:

  • To develop integrated insect pest and disease control models.
  • To develop methodologies and techniques to assess the incidence of damage caused by, insect pest and pathogen in natural forest, nurseries and plantations.

  • Develop collaborated research for evolving insect pest and pathogen resistant phenotypes of selected tree species with the active support of the state forest department and the division of Silviculture and trees improvement of HFRI.

  • To study the factors causing build up of insect pest and pathogen population on selected tree species and develop viable eco-friendly management practice.

  • Investigate the queries on insect pest and disease problems raised by, the state forest department, NGO's and farmers and to suggest management techniques of their control.

  • To study the role of mycorrhiza in the growth of important tree species.
